Anglo American’s copper production reaches 647,400 tons in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 1%

Anglo American’s copper production increased by 6% in the fourth quarter to 167,800 tons, compared with 158,800 tons in the fourth quarter of 2019. This was mainly due to the return to normal industrial water use at the Los Bronces copper mine in Chile. During the quarter, the production of Los Bronces increased by 34% to 95,900 tons. Chile’s Collahuasi mine has a record output of 276,900 tons in the past 12 months, exceeding the planned maintenance volume for the quarter. Anglo American Resources Group reported that total copper production in 2020 will be 647,400 tons, which is 1% higher than in 2019 (638,000). The company maintains its 2021 copper production target between 640,000 tons and 680,000 tons. Anglo American’s copper production capacity will reach 647,400 tons in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 1% The output of iron ore fell by 11% year-on-year to 16.03 million tons, and the output of Kumba iron ore in South Africa fell 19% year-on-year to 9.57 million tons. Brazil’s Minas-Rio iron ore production increased by 5% in the fourth quarter to a record 6.5 million tons. “As expected, thanks to the strong performance of Los Bronces and Minas-Rio, the production in the second half of the year returned to 95% of 2019,” said CEO Mark Cutifani. “Considering the operation of the Collahuasi copper mine and the Kumba iron mine, Planned maintenance and the suspension of operations at the Grosvenor Metallurgical Coal Mine make this recovery more reliable.” The company expects to produce 64-67 million tons of iron ore by 2021. The output of nickel in 2020 was 43,500 tons, and in 2019 it was 42,600 tons. Nickel production in 2021 is expected to be between 42,000 tons and 44,000 tons. The production of manganese ore in the fourth quarter increased by 4% to 942,400 tons, which was attributed to the strong mining performance of Anglo and the increase in Australian concentrate production. In the fourth quarter, Anglo American’s coal production fell by 33% to 4.2 million tons. This was due to the suspension of production at the Grosvenor mine in Australia after the underground gas accident in May 2020 and the decline in Moranbah’s production. The production guidance for metallurgical coal in 2021 remains unchanged, at 18 to 20 million tons. Due to continuing operational challenges, Anglo American has lowered its diamond production guidance in 2021, that is, the De Beers business is expected to produce 32 to 34 million carats of diamonds, compared with the previous target of 33 to 35 million carats. Production in the fourth quarter fell by 14%. In 2020, diamond production was 25.1 million carats, a year-on-year decrease of 18%. Among them, Botswana’s output fell by 28% in the fourth quarter to 4.3 million carats; Namibia’s output fell by 26% to 300,000 carats; South Africa’s output increased to 1.3 million carats; Canada’s output fell by 23%. It is 800,000 carats.
