India’s coal imports in January remained flat year-on-year and fell nearly 13% month-on-month

On February 24, Indian coal trader Iman Resources released data showing that in January 2021, India imported a total of 21.26 million tons of coal, which was basically the same as the 21.266 million tons in the same period last year and compared with December last year. 24.34 million tons decreased by 12.66%.
In the month, India’s thermal coal imports were 14.237 million tons, a 4.94% drop from 14.97 million tons in the same period last year, and a 11.7% drop from 16.124 million tons in December last year.
In January, India’s coking coal imports amounted to 5.31 million tons, an increase of 35.3% from 3.926 million tons in the same period last year, but a decrease of 4.65% from 5.569 million tons in the previous month; injection coal imports were 1.256 million tons, an increase from the same period last year 20.14%, a month-on-month decrease of 22.9%.
In the month, India’s Industrial Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) was 57.7 points, an increase of 1.3 points from 56.4 points in December last year.
